Members of the Newberry Junior Pistol Club Competed in Anniston, Alabama

Seven members of the Newberry Junior Pistol Club traveled to Anniston, Alabama for the US Junior Olympic Progressive Position Pistol National Championship that was held July 7th - 9th. Top shooters from all over the country gathered in Anniston for the competition. The Newberry Junior Pistol Club shooters were able to put forth an outsanding effort and bring back medals in both team and individual categories.

Brianna Kinard was able to take first place and collect gold for her individual performance in the standing supported category.Chesney Shealy and Carrie Haltiwanger finished 6th and 7th in the ladies basic supported position. They missed individual medals, but this was an outstanding performance for these two young ladies in their first major competition. Only 1 point separated them after 2 days of competing.

In the mixed team competitions Newberry was able to take 3rd and 4th positions. The team of Kristina Mcburnett, Galina Mcburnett, and Chesney Shealy took the bronze medals followed closely by their teammates Sean Blanton, Brandy Blanton, and Carrie Haltiwanger in 4th.

Coach Ben Blanton is very proud of all his shooters and would like to thank them for their efforts. He would also like to thank the NRA Foundation and The Gun Owners of SC for their financial support in helping to promote the shooting sports.
